Forest

"This place gives me the creeps, but at the same time, it's simply gorgeous!"

BarbFly

Height:  15 - 25 centimeters

Weight:  150 - 220 grams

Appearance

Consisting of a compact, circular body and a long, sharp tail, the BarbFly's characteristically large, round eyes almost seem too big for its body. The BarbFly is able to fly using two light, insect-like wings which tend to generate a low, quiet hum. Despite their clumsy appearance, these knights of the insect world are surprisingly agile, wielding their keratin tail-barbs like swords.

Behavior

Behavior Type:  Aggressive

BarbFlies tend to be quite territorial, and will attack anything that enters its land. However, long-distance observation of BarbFlies will reveal that they are actually quite the social creature, building large and complex underground nests and forming tightly knit communities where hunting, gathering and other chores are performed in groups.

BarbFly Nest

Height:  5 - -30 meters

Weight:  ??? grams

Appearance

BarbFlies typically construct their homes out of dirt and mud, hiding themselves away under thick tree roots. Very rarely will a BarbFly nest protrude from the ground, but when it does, it is said to resemble clusters of large eggs covered in dirt.

Occasionally, poorly constructed or abandoned BarbFly Nests may cave in, causing large sink holes to appear in forests. Sometimes, these cave-ins may cause large trees to fall, causing severe damage to surrounding structures on the surface.

Location

Rarity:  Uncommon

BarbFly Nests are typically found in denser sections of forests, where ample protection is provided by sturdy trees and thick, leafy bushes. Some larger BarbFly Nests can even span the entire area of a forest!

Florid

Height:  9 - 16 centimeters

Weight:  80 - 100 grams

Appearance

Rare and delicate, Florids float around aimlessly at low speeds around areas where foliage is thick on the forest floor, soaking up sunlight for photosynthesis. Despite their timid nature, these delicate creatures don't construct protective homes to live in, but instead float around in the open, making them particularly vulnerable to strong winds. Florids tend to resemble upside-down flowers as they drift along on gentle air currents.

Behavior

Behavior Type:  Docile

Florids have been known to run away from most other creatures. During these common attempts at escape, the Florid will flap its soft wings, slowly ushering its beautiful and delicate abdomen away from a perceived threat. One of the side-effects of this constant state of fear is the sweet aroma produced by the flower on its abdomen. In stressful situations, Florids release many spores that have no observed effects on humans. As a result, some more caring and patient humans have learnt to tame and care for these creatures in exchange for a healthy dose of natural perfume.

SporeFly

Height:  1 - 2 millimeters

Weight:  <1 gram

Appearance

Tiny, fluffy and almost invisible to the naked eye, these minuscule bugs fly around large mushrooms, taking refuge underneath their large caps. They are often found in large groups, and are vastly abundant deeper in the Industrian Forest.

Behavior

Behavior Type:  Docile

These sleepy-looking bugs have been observed to collect around one another, occasionally forming what appears to be a larger version of itself. However, even with their increased size, they do not appear to be aggressive in any way.

Sprout

Height:  14 - 34 centimeters

Weight:  150 - 245 grams

Appearance

Sprouts, aptly named because of their resemblance to small, two-leafed sprouts, consist of a long, slender stem and two large leaves which are used to soak up sunlight. Their leaves have evolved to become so large because little sunlight manages to reach the Industrian Forest floor. They are typically found growing in small clusters among soft patches of moss and grass. These plants gained sentience through Mechanization, a process used by the New Alliance to forcefully transform an organic creature into a robotic version of itself.

Behavior

Behavior Type:  Neutral

Despite their appearance, Sprouts are actually quite capable of defending their territory, if needed. Most adventurers tend to pass by peacefully, doing no harm, but anyone unlucky enough to leave their trash behind in their lands will be attacked, cut and whipped aggressively by these small sentient plants' leaves and stems.

Hedge Hog

Height:  16 - 23 centimeters

Weight:  300 - 400 grams

Appearance

Hedge Hogs were once widely kept as pets. However, after the New Alliance took over Industria, the raising of pets was strictly prohibited, and thus Hedge Hogs were released into the wild. Thankfully, they weren't an invasive species, and learned to co-exist with other forest-dwelling creatures instead. Their bush-like spines puff up when they are stressed, so watch where you sit in the forest!

Behavior

Behavior Type:  Neutral

Their soft, leafy plumage hides tough, needle-like spines that are hardened with age. under normal circumstances, Hedge Hogs will try their best not to initiate conflict. In fact, they are quite friendly social creatures, and love to be pet. However, if you happen to sit or step on one, be prepared for their full-body tackles, needles included.

Bushtail Squirrel

Height:  19 - 24 centimeters

Weight:  245 - 300 grams

Appearance

Once widely kept as pets, Bushtail Squirrels everywhere were released into the wild after the New Alliance took over Industria and the raising of pets was strictly prohibited. Thankfully, these small creatures weren't an invasive species, and learned to co-exist with other forest-dwelling creatures instead. Their bush-like tails are easily twice the size of their rodent-like bodies, and Bushtail Squirrels are often seen pulling pranks on other creatures by tricking them into thinking that they are ordinary bushes.

Behavior

Behavior Type:  Neutral

Their soft, bushy tails are generally used as a form of disguise, but when threatened, Bushtail Squirrels tend to use them as weapons, swinging them around and batting at any threats nearby. Their large bushy tails are also incredibly convenient, since they can be used to store food or sweep up dust storms.
